Use the past simple form of the verbs in brackets:

Becoming and Astronaut

When he was a child, José Hernández´s parents --------(work) on farms in California. They ---------(not have) much money, so during their summer holidays, José and his brothers -----------(help) them. For six months of the year, teh family  -----------(return) to Mexico.
