Structure of the past simple (regular verbs)

+  I/YOU/HE/SHE/IT/WE/YOU/THEY + REGULAR VERB-ED   PLAY=PLAYED ; STOP=STOPPED; STUDY=STUDIED

Examples: He played football yesterday.   They studied English last week.  I stopped eating meat last summer.

- I/YOU/HE/SHE/IT/WE/YOU/THEY + DID NOT (DIDN´T)+ REGULAR VERB INFINITIVE WITHOUT TO      

Examples: He didn´t play football yesterday.    They didn´t study English last week.      I didn´t stop eating meat last summer.

? WH- + DID+SUBJECT+REGULAR VERB INFINITIVE WITHOUT TO ?

Examples: Did he play football yesterday? Yes, he did/No, he didn´t

                   Where did they study English last week? In the English lab.

                   Did I stop eating meat last summer? Yes, I did/No, I didn´t.

Structure of the Irregular verbs:

+ I/YOU/HE/SHE/IT/WE/YOU/THEY + IRREGULAR VERB PAST FORM.    EAT=ATE   SEE=SAW   WRITE=WROTE

Examples: She ate a pizza last night.      They saw the dog last weekend.    I wrote a letter to my friend last night.

-  I/YOU/HE/SHE/IT/WE/YOU/THEY + DID NOT (DIDN´T)+ IRREGULAR VERB IN INFINITIVE WITHOUT TO

Examples: She didn´t eat pizza last night.  They didn´t see the dog last weekend.   I didn´t write the letter to my friend last night.

?  WH- + DID+ SUBJECT+IRREGULAR VERB IN INFINITIVE WITHOUT TO?

Examples: Did she eat pizza last night? Yes, she did/No, she didn´t.

                   Did they see the dog last weekend? Yes, they did/No, they didn´t.

                   Did I write the letter to my friend last night? Yes, I did/No, I didn´t.

USED TO (SOLÍA/SOLÍAMOS...) Funciona como un verbo regular en pasado.

Examples:

I used to have long hair when I was a child. (Yo solía tener el pelo largo cuando era un niño)

Mary used to be a good student five years ago. (Mary solía ser una buena estudiante hace cinco años)

-    I/YOU/HE/SHE/IT/WE/YOU/THEY/ +DIDN´T USE TO+ VERB IN INFINITIVE

I didn´t use to have long hair when I was a child. (Yo no solía tener el pelo largo cuando era un niño)

Mary didn´t use to be a good student five years ago. (Mary no solía ser una buena estudiante hace cinco años)
